Greensboro, High Point and Guilford County partnered together to create the Piedmont Discovery app.

The goal is to allow users to find outdoor amenities like trails, playgrounds or dog parks as well as indoor recreation areas and facilities.

“Nowadays pretty much everybody has a phone and I think people are used to finding an app for everything they do, the weather, shopping deals,” said Steve Averett, geographic information systems and special projects manager for the city of Greensboro. “Anything they want, they have an app for so we just thought this would be a natural place for people to look.”

The app also lets users find trails based on difficulty and terrain.

If someone is looking for a dog park or a playground near them, all they have to do is choose the two options and results will come up on the app.

The app allows users to find these public outdoor amenities as well as indoor recreation areas in Greensboro, High Point and Guilford County.

Parks & Recreation Assistant Director Tracy Pegram says visitors to the area are the ones who will benefit from this app the most.

“You may be coming here to spend some more time with your family, you may be here for a business trip,”  Pegram said. “You may just be driving over for some kind of meeting during the day and you want to get out and find something new. You're going to be able to download the app.”

The app will also provide directions and the website for more details about each location.

It’s available for both iPhones and Androids.

Naomi P. Brown joined app in January 2017.
