Durham taxpayers will get $1.6 million from the Durham Performing Arts Center, a figure down slightly from last year, but roughly equal to other years in recent history.

The performing arts center is owned by the city, which has an operating contract with PFM/Nederlander. The operator distributes a portion of income back to the city's coffers.

Earlier this year, the performing arts center was closed for a nearly , which included replacing 2,000 seats the theater's carpeting.

Industry magazine Pollstar ranks DPAC in its theater venue category. With attendance of 240,000 the Durham center ranks behind only the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Fox Theatre in Atlanta, The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Royal Albert Hall in London and Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. Compared with these venues, DPAC has a much smaller seating capacity.
