Phil Cook Celebrates Community on 'People Are My Drug'

Phil Cook's new album is called 'People Are My Drug.'

Phil Cook likes to be busy. The Durham musician is a founding member of Megafaun and plays in Hiss Golden Messenger. He's also shared the stage with heroes Mavis Staples and John Prine. Now, Cook is releasing his second solo record.  

The album, People Are My Drug, is inspired by family, friends and humans in general. It includes "Another Mother's Son," a song inspired by the police killing of Philando Castile. about the creation of that song, and the need for white people to take action against racism.

Phil Cook will host an in Carrboro next Thursday night.

Eric Hodge hosts ¹ÏÉñapp’s broadcast of Morning Edition, and files reports for the North Carolina news segments of the broadcast. He started at the station in 2004 doing fill-in work on weekends and All Things Considered.
