The State Department of Transportation has been working on a high speed rail proposal for downtown Raleigh for several years. Today the public is invited to see an updated plan at the Raleigh convention Center.
The state D-O-T is highlighting the rail line between Raleigh and Richmond 鈥� about 160 miles. It鈥檚 part of the Southeast High Speed Rail that would include a higher speed service from Boston, to Washington D-C, to Richmond on to Raleigh and Charlotte. Marc Hamel is the Environmental Manager of the NC-D-O-T Rail Division. He says the public should like this new option.
Marc Hamel: "The best part is and the part to keep in mind is, that it eliminates the negative impacts while still allowing higher speed trains to come into the city of Raleigh."
More than 18-hundred people and local agencies made comments on the first proposal. Many of the complaints were about how it would disrupt the neighborhood near Five Points.
