Wake Forest University officials are reacting to a report that aired yesterday on The Today Show. In the story, former student Maggie Hurt claims the school mishandled a sexual assault investigation in 2009.
Hurt says she was assaulted by two Wake Forest basketball players, Gary Clark and Jeff Teague. The incident occurred in Miami, but an investigation there did not lead to criminal charges.
Hurt pursued the case through the Wake Forest University judicial system. The players were found not guilty. Hurt then left the school. She the University was more interested in protecting the players than pursuing justice.
Maggie Hurt: "What they did was wrong, and I want them to know I haven't forgotten about it. I will never forget about it."
Wake Forest President Nathan Hatch that the story “misrepresented” the University’s response. He also praised the school’s sexual assault support program.
