Students are beginning classes today at the new High Point campus of a for-profit university.
South University has more than 22,000 students across the country. It has 15 campuses, but the majority of students take classes on-line. South has a graduation rate of just more than 30-percent, which is better than most for-profit schools. Michael Trembley is Campus President in High Point. He expects about 85 students on this inaugural day:
Michael Trembley: "Your goal should be you attempt to graduate all of your students. And try to place all of your students. That's the goal. I'm not focused on a percentage right now. My goal is to really meet the needs of the students coming in and service those needs."
South University operates on quarters and Trembley said many students are recent high school graduates or adults looking to change careers. The school will offer five undergraduate programs and two master's degrees and have a staff of about 30. South University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
