State Senators are allocating money to fight a lawsuit and fund commissions. Here's how the money would be spent:
- $675,000 would fund the Coal Ash Management Commission.
- $100,000 would be moved from the Department of Public Instruction in order to fight a suit filed by the State Board of Education over administrative review.
- $275,000 would be allocated to the Commission that is re-examining the Common Core curriculum.
"This is something that kind of comes out of nowhere. So that's why we're here today - early in session - to deal with some of this stuff, because you don't budget for it," said Majority Senate Leader Harry Brown.
