Alma Adams is the Democratic nominee to represent North Carolina鈥檚 12th District in Congress.
Adams is the incumbent in the 12th District, but it wasn鈥檛 a given that she would sail to victory.
She briefly lived outside of the district earlier this year after state legislators re-drew North Carolina鈥檚 congressional maps. Her opponents attacked her after she moved to Charlotte to live inside of the newly-drawn district.
Adams came out with a double-digit lead over the second-place challenger, Malcolm Graham.
In the Republican race, Leon Threatt, a pastor who lives in Matthews and who ran in 2014, won with 42 percent of the vote.
The 12th district favors Democrats, so Adams is a favorite to win in the general election in November.
